Immunity is the buzz word these days. Everyone is concerned how to give a much-needed boost to out immunity in a bid to stave off the viral infections which has become very common these days.
HealthinFive.com charts out five simple ways by which you can increase you immunity and survive the viral infections with little or no damage to your body and health.
EAT HEALTHY, STAY HEALTHY
A healthy and nutritious diet is key to battling any disease. One’s diet should ideally cover all the bases – right amount of protein, fats, vitamins, etc.
Vitamins B6, C and E are especially critical in improving the immunity of the body. This means don’t cut down on your consumption of vegetables, fruits, dals, whole grains, chicken/paneer (for the non-veg and veg eaters) as well as healthy fats.
Some of the food rich in Vitamin B6 include chicken, salmon, tuna, bananas, green vegetables and potatoes (with the skin). While food rich in Vitamin C consists of citrus fruits like oranges and strawberries, as well as tomatoes, broccoli and spinach.
Also almonds, sunflower and safflower oil, sunflower seeds, peanut butter and spinach are rich sources of Vitamin E.
WATER IS KEY
Many of us fail to realise the importance of staying hydrated throughout the day. It is a proven fact that hydrating oneself is essential for keeping the infection-fighting mechanism of our body in shape.
Lymph is known to be carrier of immune cells of our body and it is largely made of water. Once the body gets dehydrated – generally caused by diarrhea or high fever – it severely compromises our body’s ability to fight infections.
It becomes critical for those of us living in hot and humid climate or after your daily workout, it’s essential to complement the body with at least 2 litres of water to keep our body hydrated through the day, especially during summer months.
EXERCISE IS MUST
All health specialists will advice that regular physical activity is key to a healthy life. Exercise not only helps in building muscle mass but critical to de-stressing your body from the rigours of daily life.
There are studies to prove that even half an hour of regular exercise is enough to give much needed boost to our immune system. So you don’t need to be a gym freak to improve your immunity but normal exercises like cycling, running, etc are enough to keep you going in your battle against a pandemic.
GET A SOUND SLEEP
We don’t give enough importance to getting sound sleep in our lives. Irregular sleeping patterns are some of the biggest causes which makes one prone to viral diseases like common cold.
It’s of primary importance to get a good and sound sleep over the course of the night to give our body the best chance to stay in shape and fight the disease-causing infections.
REDUCTION OF STRESS
One of the easiest ways to improve the quality of our sleep is by reducing stress in our lives. Prolonged period of stress leads to body producing what is called stress response. This stress response curtails the power of the immune system and increases risk of infections or illness.
It is important to not only identify reasons of stress but also practice ways to check it by way of meditation, chanting, prayer or even daily exercise.
