Brain health is often neglected by a majority of people. On the occasion of World Brain Day, Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road, launched a specialized Epilepsy Clinic and Parkinson’s Disease Clinic to cater to various needs of the patients including patient education, awareness, and advocacy. The clinic has trained experts to manage Epilepsy and Parkinson’s disease with the support of a multi-disciplinary team that will help with pre-and post-treatment care.
India is home to millions of people with Epilepsy and Parkinson’s diseases which can lower their quality of life. Despite the increasing numbers, a majority of people are unable to access proper treatment for Epilepsy and Parkinson’s. With medical advancements, it is possible to manage these two debilitating issues and the comorbidities associated with them.
Dr. Pavan Pai, Consultant Interventional Neurologist, and Stroke Specialist, Wockhardt Hospitals Mira Road said, “Parkinson’s Disease is a neurodegenerative condition due to which there is a lack of dopamine in brain cells. There is a growing prevalence of Parkinson’s disease in the country. Just like epilepsy patients, even those with Parkinson’s disease need enough care and attention. In the beginning, Parkinson’s patients feel better with the help of medication. This clinic will also incorporate BOTOX therapy for other movement disorders. On the eve of World Brain Day, the hospital has come up with an in-house Brain Gym for patients and the general public to keep them mentally sharp, focus better, and remember more. The launch of this clinic with cutting-edge technologies, expert doctors, and highly-trained technicians, assures best-in-class treatment to the patients with Parkinson’s and Epilepsy.”
Dr. Dipesh Pimpale, Consultant Neurologist, Wockhardt Hospital Mira Road added, said, “Epilepsy is a neurological disorder and is often considered a psychiatric or mental problem. There is a social stigma attached to this condition due to which getting prompt medical attention can be difficult. Our goal is to spread more awareness about Epilepsy, and Parkinson’s disease through this clinic as these patients deserve a better life. Epilepsy can happen to anyone at any time. Timely diagnosis and treatment are key for those with epilepsy. We will help with the next level of care at our clinic with a dedicated team of neurologists, neurosurgeons, neuro rehab specialists, neuro-technicians, and staff nurses.”
