Quit Smoking and Alcohol
Whether you are a chain smoker or an occasional drinker, it is important that you quit both your drinking and smoking habits as they can harm the growth of your baby. The deadly combination of smoking and drinking cannot just slow down the growth and development of your foetus but also lead to complications such as placenta problems, pre-term birth and can also lead to miscarriage at times.
Let go of your Adventurous Side
You may be an athlete, a sportsperson or an adventure enthusiast but if you have become pregnant, you will have to give your sporty side bit of rest. While most doctors encourage ‘being active’ during pregnancy, do consult your doctor before continuing with any of your adventure activities as some of them may not be suitable for your condition. Most doctors, however, prescribe you to rest your adventurous side during your first trimester and then, depending upon your medical condition, gives you a go ahead to continue with them in moderation from your second trimester, which is considered the safest period during pregnancy.
Do not ignore Supplements and Vitamins
Many women today consult their gynaes even more conceiving and start taking the required vitamins and supplements, such as, folic acid, etc. However, while taking vitamins before pregnancy is good, taking them during your first trimester is most crucial and this is the period when your baby most needs it. Thus ensure that you are taking monitored dosage of iron, calcium, folic acid, protein and more. Undergo a blood test, if need be, to monitor the levels of supplements and vitamins in your body and then fix your intake accordingly.
Avoid trans-fat rich food and junk
Now that you know you are eating for two, make sure you take enough nutritional food so that both you and your baby are well-fed. Break your food routine into small regular meals, taken every two hours and consisting of a perfect mix of fruits and vegetables. Cut down on junk food and food rich in trans-fat as they tend to harm the growth of your baby. Replace your junk with healthy home cooked snacks, without long intervals and gaps.
Avoid Adventurous Sex
When a couple discovers they are going to have a baby, the reactions can be manifold. While some may avoid having sex all together, few others might get excited at the prospect of enjoying protection-free inter-course. However, since this is just the beginning of your conception, take things slow and easy at the moment. There is nothing wrong with having sexual inter-course but avoid experimenting with your sexual positions and consult your doctor for best advice!
