A recent health analysis has highlighted a growing public health concern among India’s younger population. The report indicates that nearly one in five young Indians is prediabetic, meaning they have higher-than-normal blood sugar levels that could eventually develop into full-blown diabetes if not managed early.
In addition, around 70% of those assessed were found to be deficient in vitamin D—an essential nutrient that supports bone health, immunity, and overall well-being. This widespread deficiency has been linked to limited sun exposure, sedentary lifestyles, and poor dietary habits.
The study, based on a large dataset of health screenings, also revealed declining fitness levels among young adults. Many individuals under the age of 30 were found to have low muscle strength, reduced flexibility, and poor endurance. These factors not only affect daily functioning but also increase the long-term risk of chronic diseases such as heart conditions.
Health experts warn that these trends reflect changing lifestyles marked by inactivity, unhealthy diets, and increased screen time. They stress the importance of early intervention through regular exercise, balanced nutrition, and routine health check-ups to prevent serious health complications in the future.
