Indian health-tech startup CureMeAbroad has become a signatory to the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), marking a significant milestone in its commitment to responsible business practices, corporate governance, and sustainable growth. The medical tourism discovery and concierge platform is among the first Indian healthcare startups to join the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative, which brings together more than 20,000 companies and organizations across over 160 countries.
The UN Global Compact encourages businesses worldwide to align their operations with ten universally accepted principles covering human rights, labour standards, environmental protection, and anti-corruption. It also supports companies in contributing to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By joining the initiative, CureMeAbroad has committed to integrating these principles into its business strategy and publishing an annual Communication on Progress (CoP), detailing the company’s sustainability efforts and governance practices.
Founded as a medical tourism platform that connects international patients with accredited hospitals and healthcare providers, CureMeAbroad views governance and transparency as essential pillars of its long-term growth strategy. The company believes that operating in the healthcare sector requires the highest standards of accountability, as patients rely on trusted platforms when making critical decisions about medical treatment abroad. According to the company, embedding responsible business practices from the early stages of its journey is key to building lasting credibility with patients, hospitals, investors, and global partners.
The startup has reported achieving cash-flow positivity within its first two quarters of operations, reflecting its focus on building a financially sustainable business while maintaining strong governance standards. Company leaders believe that commercial success and responsible business conduct should go hand in hand, particularly in sectors such as healthcare where trust and transparency are critical to long-term success.
As part of its UNGC commitment, CureMeAbroad plans to align its internal policies with several Sustainable Development Goals that closely relate to its business. These include SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), which promotes access to quality healthcare; SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), aimed at improving healthcare accessibility across borders; and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), which encourages sustainable operational practices. The company believes these goals complement its mission of making quality healthcare more accessible to international patients through technology-driven medical tourism solutions.
The UNGC enrolment also forms part of CureMeAbroad’s broader compliance and quality assurance strategy. The company is already compliant with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) for handling patient data from the United States. It is also working towards General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) compliance for European patients and has applied for Global Healthcare Accreditation to further strengthen patient confidence and international credibility. These initiatives are intended to ensure high standards of data privacy, patient safety, and operational transparency across its platform.
By joining the United Nations Global Compact, CureMeAbroad aims to reinforce its position as a responsible healthcare technology company committed to ethical governance, sustainable growth, and global best practices. The move reflects the growing emphasis among emerging startups on integrating environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles into their business models from an early stage. As the medical tourism industry continues to expand globally, the company’s focus on accountability, transparency, and international compliance is expected to strengthen trust among patients, healthcare providers, investors, and institutional partners while supporting its long-term global growth ambitions.
