The G7 nations have announced a series of new initiatives aimed at strengthening global health security and advancing sustainable development, with support from partner countries including India. The announcements were made during the G7 Summit in France, where leaders discussed international cooperation on health, economic resilience and development challenges facing vulnerable nations.
A key focus of the discussions was the ongoing Ebola outbreak affecting the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda. G7 leaders called for a coordinated international response to contain the disease and prevent further cross-border transmission. India, along with Egypt, Kenya and South Korea, joined the appeal for stronger public health measures, including enhanced surveillance, contact tracing, border monitoring and community engagement.
According to health authorities, the outbreak has continued to expand, prompting concerns about regional and global health security. The World Health Organization has reported hundreds of suspected and confirmed cases across affected regions, underlining the need for sustained international support and rapid response mechanisms.
The G7 and partner countries also highlighted the importance of strengthening healthcare systems and improving preparedness for future health emergencies. Leaders emphasized that global cooperation remains essential to tackling infectious diseases, ensuring equitable access to healthcare and building resilient public health infrastructure. These efforts align with broader international discussions on health security and pandemic preparedness.
Beyond health issues, the summit placed significant emphasis on development cooperation. G7 leaders reaffirmed their commitment to supporting developing and emerging economies through international partnerships, investment and policy reforms. Discussions focused on reducing financial vulnerabilities, promoting sustainable growth and mobilizing resources for development priorities. India participated actively in these conversations, reflecting its growing role in shaping global development agendas and representing the interests of the Global South.
The leaders also stressed the need for stronger international solidarity in addressing challenges such as economic inequality, debt burdens, climate-related risks and healthcare financing. Efforts to encourage greater private-sector participation and innovative financing mechanisms were discussed as part of a broader strategy to accelerate development outcomes in low- and middle-income countries.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the summit’s outreach sessions alongside leaders from G7 member states and invited partner nations. India’s participation marked its 13th appearance at the forum and underscored its increasing importance in global discussions on development, sustainability and international cooperation. During the summit, India reiterated its commitment to amplifying the concerns and aspirations of developing nations while supporting collective action on pressing global challenges.
The announcements reflect a broader effort by the G7 and partner countries to strengthen multilateral cooperation at a time of growing global uncertainty. By combining health security initiatives with development-focused measures, the summit sought to advance a more coordinated international approach to addressing public health threats, economic vulnerabilities and sustainable development goals.
