Vaccines are reaching every corner of the country. India is absolutely self-reliant in this regard. I thank the scientists who worked day and night on the vaccine. The credit entirely goes to the medical fraternity.” – Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India
Immune system mounts a lasting defense after recovery from COVID-19
A new Rockefeller study offers an encouraging answer, suggesting that those who recover from COVID-19 are protected against the virus for at least six months, and likely much longer. The findings, published in Nature, provide the strongest evidence yet that the immune system “remembers” the virus and, remarkably, continues to improve the quality of antibodies even after the infection has waned. Antibodies produced months after the infection showed increased ability to block SARS-CoV-2, as well as its mutated versions such as the South African variant.
The Lancet Infectious Diseases publishes positive findings of Covaxin indigenous Covid-19 vaccine
The findings published in the peer review journal shows the safety and immunogenicity of the vaccine as seen in a double-blind, randomised trial. BBV152 (Covaxin) led to tolerable safety outcomes and enhanced immune responses. Both Algel-IMDG formulations were selected for phase 2 immunogenicity trials. The double-blind, multi centre, randomized controlled trial was conducted in 11 hospitals across the country. Between July 13 and 30, 2020, 827 participants were screened, of whom 375 were enrolled. Further efficacy trials are warranted as per the publication.
