Jalandhar has reported 28 dengue cases so far this year, with rural areas recording more infections than urban parts of the district, according to the latest Health Department report. Health teams have intensified surveillance and mosquito-breeding checks to control the spread.
The district has recorded 28 dengue cases so far this year, including 16 cases from rural areas and 12 from urban areas, highlighting a higher disease burden in the rural belt.
According to the Health Department’s latest vector-borne disease report, one case was active on Saturday. No dengue-related death has been reported in the district so far.
Health teams have increased their efforts to detect and remove mosquito-breeding sites across Jalandhar. So far, officials have surveyed 3,56,278 houses and checked 8,26,968 containers. Mosquito larvae were found in 1,102 houses and 1,144 containers during these inspections.
On Saturday alone, teams surveyed 1,708 houses and checked 3,548 containers. Larvae were detected in five houses and five containers.
The department has also been taking action against residents where mosquito-breeding sites are found. The Municipal Corporation has issued 67 pre-challans, while three challans have been issued in rural areas. Officials said pre-challans serve as warnings, giving residents an opportunity to clear breeding sites and take preventive steps.
Dr Aditya, District Epidemiologist, said the department is focusing on removing breeding sources to prevent the spread of dengue.
“We are focusing on source reduction to prevent dengue larvae from breeding. We are urging people to regularly identify and remove stagnant water from their homes and surroundings.”
He also advised residents to make checking and cleaning stagnant water a weekly habit, as such water can provide a suitable breeding ground for mosquitoes.
The Health Department has tested 8,778 dengue samples from Jalandhar so far. The district has also reported two chikungunya cases, with 150 samples tested.
