India is set to take a significant step in strengthening its digital healthcare ecosystem with the launch of Aarogya Setu 2.0, an upgraded version of the health application that was first introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic. The revamped platform is being positioned as a comprehensive digital health companion that will provide citizens with seamless access to a wide range of healthcare services through a single application.
Unlike the original Aarogya Setu app, which primarily focused on COVID-19 contact tracing, self-assessment, and health advisories, the new version has been redesigned to support a broader healthcare ecosystem. The platform will integrate multiple health services, enabling users to access and manage their medical information, book healthcare services, and connect with the country’s expanding digital health infrastructure.
One of the key features of Aarogya Setu 2.0 is its integration with the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM). Through the application, users will be able to create and manage their Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA), securely store and share digital health records with consent, and access healthcare services across participating hospitals and medical institutions. This interoperability is expected to improve continuity of care by making patient records available whenever required.
The upgraded application will also introduce several citizen-centric features aimed at making healthcare more accessible and convenient. Users will be able to schedule outpatient registrations, locate nearby hospitals, laboratories, doctors, and blood banks, while also accessing teleconsultation services. The app will facilitate digital hospital payments through integrated scan-and-pay features, reducing paperwork and simplifying patient experiences.
In addition, Aarogya Setu 2.0 will leverage artificial intelligence to generate personalised health insights based on users’ health records and lifestyle data. The application is also expected to support integration with wearable devices, allowing individuals to monitor important health indicators and maintain a comprehensive digital record of their wellness. These features are intended to encourage preventive healthcare while empowering citizens to take a more active role in managing their health.
The initiative is part of the government’s broader effort to build an integrated digital healthcare ecosystem that connects patients, healthcare providers, insurers, and public health agencies through interoperable digital platforms. Alongside Aarogya Setu 2.0, other digital initiatives, including systems for electronic health records and health claims processing, are being introduced to enhance efficiency, transparency, and accessibility across the healthcare sector.
Officials believe that the upgraded platform will help streamline healthcare delivery by reducing administrative processes, improving access to medical records, and enabling faster coordination among healthcare stakeholders. By consolidating multiple services into a single application, the government aims to provide citizens with a one-stop digital solution for managing their healthcare needs.
The launch of Aarogya Setu 2.0 reflects India’s continued focus on leveraging digital technology to strengthen public healthcare infrastructure. As digital health services become increasingly integrated into routine healthcare delivery, the platform is expected to improve accessibility, convenience, and continuity of care for millions of citizens while supporting the country’s vision of a connected and technology-driven healthcare system.
