PM Modi highlights homeopathy’s role in healthcare

PM Modi highlights homeopathy’s role in healthcare

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has shared an article highlighting the growing role of homeopathy in India’s healthcare and wellness system, underlining its contribution to affordable, sustainable, and holistic medical care. The article, written by Union AYUSH Minister Prataprao Jadhav, was shared on social media on the occasion of World Homoeopathy Day 2026.

In his post, Prime Minister Modi stated that homeopathy has evolved into an integral part of India’s pluralistic healthcare system and can contribute significantly toward the vision of “Viksit Bharat.” He noted that the system’s deep community connection and sustainable approach make it relevant in addressing modern healthcare challenges.

The article emphasised that World Homoeopathy Day 2026 is being observed under the theme “Homoeopathy for Sustainable Health.” According to the AYUSH Ministry, the occasion serves as an opportunity to reflect on how homeopathy contributes not only to individual wellness but also to environmentally responsible and socially inclusive healthcare systems.

Government officials highlighted that homeopathy has witnessed significant growth in India over the years. India currently has one of the world’s largest homeopathic healthcare networks, with over 3.45 lakh registered practitioners, thousands of dispensaries, and hundreds of educational institutions dedicated to the field. Experts say the system has become increasingly important in preventive care, chronic disease management, and holistic wellness practices.

The Ministry of AYUSH stated that it is focusing on strengthening homeopathy through evidence-based research, digital integration, and improved educational standards. Initiatives such as the Ayush Grid, digital health systems, AI-enabled learning tools, and updated research journals are being promoted to modernise the sector and improve accessibility.

Officials also stressed the importance of scientific validation and interdisciplinary collaboration to strengthen the credibility of homeopathy globally. According to AYUSH Minister Jadhav, India has built a robust institutional ecosystem supporting homeopathic medicine and affordable healthcare delivery.

The government further linked homeopathy with sustainable healthcare goals, especially at a time when healthcare costs, chronic illnesses, and concerns over antimicrobial resistance are increasing worldwide. The AYUSH Ministry believes homeopathy’s low ecological footprint and focus on stimulating the body’s natural healing mechanisms make it an environmentally conscious healthcare option.

World Homoeopathy Day events held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi brought together policymakers, researchers, practitioners, and students to discuss the future of the system in India and globally. Sessions focused on preventive healthcare, lifestyle diseases, biodiversity conservation, and integrating traditional medical knowledge with modern scientific research.

Supporters of homeopathy say the system offers patient-centric treatment with minimal side effects and personalised care. However, the field has also faced criticism from sections of the scientific community, which continue to debate the level of clinical evidence supporting some homeopathic treatments. Despite this, the Indian government continues to promote AYUSH systems, including homeopathy, as complementary healthcare approaches alongside mainstream medicine.

The Prime Minister’s endorsement is being viewed as another sign of the government’s continued emphasis on traditional and alternative systems of medicine as part of India’s broader healthcare framework. Experts believe the integration of digital technology, research initiatives, and public health programmes could further expand the role of homeopathy in India’s healthcare ecosystem in the coming years.
