A new case of swine flu has been recorded in Chandigarh amid an increase in cases throughout the nation. After one case that came to light earlier in July, this is the city’s second case of the season. The total for the city since January is 12. Meanwhile, there has been an increase in instances in neighboring Punjab; as of Sunday, 93 cases had been documented. This month, Haryana has recorded eight incidents.
According to Head of Health Services Dr. Suman Singh, no one in Chandigarh has been hospitalized with swine flu so far. Only one case has been reported this month, and the patient is recovering at home. Although swine flu cases, particularly those caused by the H1N1 and H3N2 viruses, are reported every year, cases have emerged earlier than usual this year.
Dr. Vishal Guglani, a pediatrician and Medical Superintendent at Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, said such cases generally begin appearing in September and October.
He clarified that the swine flu is a seasonal illness that manifests as a cold, fever, and cough. People with various comorbidities, such as hypertension, advanced age, infants, long-term medication use, etc., are more susceptible to serious illnesses, including pneumonia.
According to the World Health Organization’s classification, flu cases can be classified into three groups based on their severity: Grade B, when the patient has a high fever and may require oxygen support, slight, where symptoms include a slight fever, cough, and cold.
