Aster, Quality Care to Invest ₹1,661 Cr in Kerala Healthcare

June 25, 2026
Aster, Quality Care to Invest ₹1,661 Cr in Kerala Healthcare

Healthcare major Aster DM Healthcare, along with Quality Care India Ltd. (QCIL), has announced an investment of ₹1,661 crore in Kerala to significantly expand healthcare infrastructure across the state. The initiative aims to strengthen access to advanced medical services, increase hospital capacity, and support Kerala’s growing reputation as a leading healthcare destination.

The investment plan includes the addition of 1,315 hospital beds in the coming years, marking one of the largest private healthcare expansion initiatives in Kerala. Once completed, the combined network of Aster and Quality Care India will operate 11 hospitals in the state with a total capacity of approximately 4,575 beds.

According to the expansion roadmap, Aster will independently add 834 beds in Kerala. A key project under the plan is a new 454-bed hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, which is expected to enhance access to specialised and advanced healthcare services in southern Kerala. The expansion is aimed at meeting the increasing demand for tertiary and quaternary care facilities in the state.

The announcement follows discussions between Aster DM Healthcare Founder and Chairman Dr. Azad Moopen and Kerala Chief Minister V. D. Satheesan. The meeting focused on strengthening healthcare infrastructure, medical education, skill development, healthcare technology, medical tourism, and charitable healthcare initiatives across the state.

Dr. Moopen highlighted Kerala’s strategic importance in Aster’s growth journey, noting that the state is home to a highly skilled healthcare workforce that is respected nationally and internationally. He emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting Kerala’s vision of becoming one of India’s premier healthcare hubs through sustained investments and infrastructure development.

The expansion is also expected to generate substantial employment opportunities. Aster and Quality Care India estimate that nearly 7,900 additional jobs will be created as part of the project, benefiting doctors, nurses, allied health professionals, administrative staff, and support services. The initiative is expected to contribute to both healthcare accessibility and regional economic growth.

Industry experts believe the investment reflects the growing demand for high-quality healthcare services in Kerala. The state has emerged as a preferred destination for medical tourism and specialised treatments, supported by its strong healthcare ecosystem, skilled workforce, and high standards of patient care. Expanding hospital infrastructure is expected to further strengthen Kerala’s position in the healthcare sector.

In addition to infrastructure development, Aster has announced a ₹120-crore Cancer Care CSR Programme aimed at improving access to cancer treatment across India. The first project under this initiative includes the installation of an advanced Linear Accelerator (LINAC) facility in Wayanad, bringing modern radiation therapy closer to patients in underserved regions.

The healthcare expansion gains added significance in the backdrop of the proposed merger between Aster DM Healthcare and Quality Care India, which is expected to create one of India’s largest hospital networks. The combined entity plans to expand its footprint through both greenfield projects and capacity enhancements, with Kerala remaining one of its most important growth markets.

With the planned investment, Kerala is set to witness a major boost in healthcare infrastructure, improving access to advanced medical services while supporting employment, medical education, and long-term healthcare development across the state.
