India, Venezuela Deepen Ties in Energy and Healthcare

India, Venezuela Deepen Ties in Energy and Healthcare

India and Venezuela have agreed to deepen bilateral cooperation across a wide range of sectors, including energy, healthcare, agriculture, technology, and critical minerals, following high-level talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Venezuela’s Acting President, Delcy Rodríguez, in New Delhi.

During the meeting, the two leaders reviewed the entire spectrum of India-Venezuela relations and explored new opportunities to strengthen economic and strategic engagement. Both sides emphasized the importance of expanding collaboration in sectors that can contribute to sustainable development and mutual growth.

Energy cooperation emerged as a key focus of the discussions. Venezuela, which possesses some of the world’s largest proven oil reserves, is increasingly viewed as an important partner in India’s efforts to diversify its energy sources. Indian officials highlighted the strong complementarity between the two countries, with Venezuela offering abundant energy resources and India providing a large and stable market along with advanced refining capabilities.

The leaders also explored opportunities in upstream and downstream energy projects, including exploration, production, refining, and distribution. India’s oil companies are already present in Venezuela and are seeking to expand their investments and partnerships. A technical team from India is expected to visit Venezuela in the near future to identify additional areas of cooperation in the energy sector.

Apart from energy, the discussions covered critical minerals and mining, sectors that are becoming increasingly important for India’s industrial and clean-energy ambitions. Venezuela’s vast reserves of minerals, including gold and other strategic resources, were identified as areas where future collaboration could be explored.

Healthcare and agriculture were also prominent on the agenda. Both countries expressed interest in strengthening cooperation in pharmaceuticals, medical services, agricultural technology, and food security initiatives. The talks reflected a shared commitment to leveraging each nation’s strengths to address development challenges and improve the well-being of their populations.

In addition, the leaders discussed expanding ties in trade, investment, automobiles, technology, and people-to-people exchanges. The Venezuelan delegation, which is on a five-day visit to India, is scheduled to visit facilities in the energy, pharmaceutical, and automobile sectors to gain insights into India’s industrial capabilities and explore potential partnerships.

Prime Minister Modi described Venezuela as a valued partner in Latin America and underscored the importance of close cooperation between the two countries for advancing the interests of the Global South. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral relations and working together on regional and global issues of common interest.

The meeting marks a significant step in strengthening India-Venezuela ties at a time when both nations are seeking new avenues for economic cooperation and long-term strategic partnerships. With growing collaboration in energy, healthcare, agriculture, and technology, the relationship is expected to gain further momentum in the coming years.
